Audi’s new diesel-powered ‘S’ cars might not be the most exciting sports cars in the brand’s lineup but they actually make a bit of sense as SUVs. For instance, the Audi SQ8 TDI isn’t exactly thrilling but, being a massive SUV, it doesn’t’ really have to be. However, it can look awesome and deliver impressive performance, which is exactly what ABT Sportsline is for.
Now offered by ABT Sportsline is a comprehensive tuning package that brings mean, aggressive looks along with heart-stopping power.
On the outside, the Audi SQ8 TDI gets a new aggressive aero package, which consists of a new front splitter, side skirts, a new rear diffuser and a massive rear spoiler. That new aero pacakge, along with air suspension in its lower settings, makes the SQ8 look lower and much, much meaner. It also gets quad exhausts pipes which are real and not the fake ones you’ll find on the standard car.
In addition to the Batmobile looks, the ABT-tuned Audi SQ8 TDI allows packs some serious firepower. Its 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged diesel engine (with an additional electric compressor) now makes a whopping 510 hp and 715 lb-ft (970 Nm), up from 435 hp and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm). According to ABT, 0-60 mph takes 4.6 seconds, which isn’t too shabby for a big diesel SUV.
It also gets a new adaptive ABT air suspension with a new “Coffee Mode”, which lowers it as far as it will possibly go, which is 65mm lower than the standard Comfort setting. In that setting, it looks absurdly low and quite awesome, actually.
The Audi SQ8 TDI is an interesting car because it offers surprising performance with decent fuel economy and superb luxury. In its standard form, it’s not exactly as exciting as proper petrol-powered ‘S’ cars but the ABT tuning package seems to remedy that issue. If you’re an SQ8 owner, it will be genuinely difficult to not be tempted by this.
