ABT Audi A8 TDI is clean and mean

ABT Sportline is known for its mega builds that boast huge power figures, tons of aero and performance that would make stock Audis feel inadequate. So what happens when they turn their sights on a sensible diesel luxury car? The ABT Audi A8 TDI happens, that’s what.

To start, ABT Sportsline takes an Audi A8 TDI 50 (I don’t know what the ’50’ means either), which uses a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 diesel engine, and beefs it up. In stock form, the 3.0 TDI engine makes 282 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. Those figures on their own are impressive and help get the A8 from 0-60 mph in under 6 seconds. However, that’s not good enough for ABT Sportsline.

All that ABT did, though, was add their own engine tune. So the ABT Audi A8 TDI makes 325 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Those aren’t huge numbers compared to the standard car but it is only an ECU tune that’s been done to it. Expect ABT to mess with it some more and come out with more power upgrades for the V6 diesel in the future. Still, even that little boost of power could get the big A8 getting to 60 mph in the low five-second range, which is VW GTI territory. That might not sound like a lot but for a big luxury car with an efficient and silky smooth diesel engine, it’s actually pretty good.

ABT left the rest of the car largely alone. The only additional changes made to the Audi A8 were new 22-inch ABT Sport GR wheels. They look really good and are highly recommended even without the tune. Although, we’d also like to see ABT mess with the suspension a bit, maybe lower it, and give it a bit more power and handling. Imagine an uber-diesel Audi A8? That would be awesome. That’s what we need, ABT, that’s what we need.
