This year marks 25 years of Audi Sport (formerly known as Audi Quattro GmbH). The very first Audi Sport product was the original Audi RS2 Avant, back in 1994, and the four-ringed brand wants to honor that original with a special “Anniversary Package of 25 Years of RS” package (the Germans have to shorten that name).
“All our RS models are strong characters. The RS2 Avant from 1994 already represented our philosophy of a strong performance, individuality, and full everyday usability. This is basis of our success story,” says Oliver Hoffmann, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH. “For our anniversary package, we placed the focus on individuality. The exterior and interior make reference to our first RS model, the RS2 Avant.”
For the outside, the 25-year anniversary package brings Nogaro Blue paint, which was the original blue from the Audi RS2, along with a combination of matte aluminum and gloss black trim. All models also get special puddle lights, with “25” projecting onto the ground when the door is open, and “25” in their wheel center caps. If customers want, Mythos black, Nardo gray, and Glacier white paint can be ordered instead of Nogaro Blue.
On the inside, all models get black leather interior with contrasting cobalt blue Alcantara accents. The Audi TT RS, RS4 and RS5 all get Nappa leather seats with contrasting blue honeycomb pattern inserts. While the Audi RS6 Avant and RS7 get nicer perforated Valcona leather with a blue contrast that “shimmers” through the perforation. The seats are also ventilated on the RS6 and RS7. Not all Audi RS2 Avant models had blue accents inside but it’s a classic design cue that’s beloved by fans. Obviously, “25” badges are found throughout the cabin, such as on the seats, floor mats and door trim panels.
Honoring the Audi RS2 Avant is very cool but it isn’t cheap. Prices for the 25-year anniversary package in Germany are as follows: €9,350 for the TT RS Coupe, €10,900 for the RS4 Avant, RS5 Coupe and RS5 Sportback, and €14,500 for the RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback. As far as we know, only German market cars will get this package.
The Audi RS2 Avant is a legend. While the Audi Quattro may have cemented the brand as a genuine performance car maker, the RS2 placed it squarely in competition with brands like BMW and Mercedes-Benz at the time. It also started the RS brand and all of the great ‘RS’ cars we have today owe their existence to the original Audi RS2 Avant.
