Things have been relatively quiet at Audi HQ in recent months, but the second half of the year should be quite exciting. That’s because we’re expecting the Four Rings to unveil the S3 in the foreseeable future seeing as how the company doesn’t even bother to camouflage the prototypes anymore. The S3 Sedan was spotted by YouTuber Automotive Mike at the Nürburgring without any disguise whatsoever, thus showing its sporty Turbo Blue body.
It shared the Green Hell with the new S3 Sportback wearing that full body wrap used by Audi earlier this year when it teased the hot hatchback. The video is a good opportunity to not only see the cars in full, but also hear the turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine they’ll be sharing. It will make a little over 300 horsepower in both applications, complete with a healthy 295 pound-feet (400 Newton-meters) of torque.
While usually, we’d take the hatchback over the sedan, this generation around it would be difficult to decide since the four-door model looks hugely appealing. Needless to say, Americans won’t have this problem since the Sportback is expected to remain a forbidden fruit. The same holds true for the five-cylinder RS3 Sportback as only its Sedan counterpart will be sold stateside.
The prototypes look impressively agile while tackling the numerous corners of the Nürburgring, and probably the only way to make the cars any better would be by offering a manual gearbox. That’s highly unlikely to happen, but that won’t be much of an issue to the vast majority of customers since the marriage between the automatic and the Quattro all-wheel drive delivers the best performance.
As a final note, we’re keeping our fingers crossed the RS3 models coming at a later date will do away with the fake vents – especially the ones in the rear bumper.
