2021 Audi Q5 Sportback Rendered to take on BMW X4

It took some time for Audi to jump into the SUV “Coupe” waters but now it seems as if it’s all in. Its first attempt at such a car was the Audi Q8, a surprisingly good car. Now it has the Q3 Sportback and will soon have a Q5 Sportback to go along with it. In this new render, we can see the Q5 Sportback and its potentially new styling. (We don’t own the renders but you can see them here)

This new render shows off almost exactly what an Audi Q5 Sportback could look like. From the A-pillar forward, it’s identical to a newly-facelifted standard Q5, which is to be expected. It’s behind the A-pillar that the Q5 Sportback render differs.

Its roofline is more aggressively raked,  its C-pillar is very sporty and its rear glass narrow. It’s exactly what you’d expect to see from a “coupe” SUV from Audi.

Standard Audi Q5

If this is an accurate interpretation of what the Audi Q5 Sportback will look like, it will honestly be the worst looking of Audi’s SUV “coupes”. The Q8 — and its extreme RS Q8 sibling — is a better looking car that we expected it to be, the Q3 Sportback has a punchy, pugnacious look to it and the Audi e-tron Sportback looks great, actually. This Q5 Sportback render, though? Not great.

It’s just sort of frumpy and boring at the back looks to have no reason for existing. It will also be disappointing if this is what becomes of the Q5 Sportback, as Audi has so far seemed to be the best at designing these sportier SUVs. All of the aforementioned ones are better looking than their rivals.

Speaking of rivals, if the Audi Q5 Sportback does eventually come to be, it will take on the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Coupe directly. While neither of those cars are particularly pretty, it’s not clear from this render than the Audi Q5 Sportback will be any better.

I've been in love with cars since I was a kid, specifically German cars. Now I get to drive them talk about them on the internet.
