2021 Audi A4 Now With Standard Quattro, 201 Horsepower

The Audi A4 lineup received a comprehensive mid-cycle update for the 2020 model year, but you’ll be glad to hear the 2021MY comes along with its own set of tweaks. For example, hopping behind the wheel of a base model is a more rewarding experience as the peeps from Ingolstadt have massaged the turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine to squeeze an additional 13 horsepower. Doing the math, the entry-level A4 now breaks the 200-hp barrier, offering 201 hp.

Not only that, but Audi throws a mild-hybrid system into the mix to cut fuel consumption and enhance low-end boost. The good news continues as the luxury sedan is now equipped with Quattro all-wheel drive even in its standard guise. That’s right – the FWD model is dead. The same holds true for the swoopy A5 Sportback since it gets the same array of updates as its conventionally styled sibling.

For your money’s worth, Audi will sweeten the pot with more standard tech by including wireless Apple CarPlay, lane departure warning, and the nifty integrated toll module. That being said, you’ll be paying more than before taking into account the old 2020 A4 Sedan retailed for $37,400 whereas the 2021 model begins at $39,100. Are the upgrades worth $1,700? Customers will decide.

The 2021MY switchover also brings changes to the Premium Plus trim as it now bundles adaptive cruise control with active lane assist, hands-on detection steering wheel, and a top-view camera system. The more generous standard equipment list is reflected in the car’s asking price as the A4 in the Premium Plus flavor starts at $43,800 or $2,800 more than before.

Rounding off the changes are the heated rear seats on the $49,400 Prestige trim (+ $2,450 compared to 2020MY), while the A4 45 TFSI also gains 13 hp for a total of 261 hp. The model with the beefier engine can now be had with an optional Black optic package with 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-season tires. Alternatively, a 19-inch set is available with summer rubber.
