The 2020 Audi S8 Sedan might not be as exciting as an RS6 Avant or as versatile as the A4 Allroad Quattro, but there’s something special about a large luxury sedan with heaps of power. In my eyes, the S8 is THE company’s flagship car, even though some would argue the RS Q8 is the crown jewel of the lineup.
A new promotional video puts the spotlight on a sinister-looking spec of the high-performance sedan. Created as part of a collaboration between video producer Daniel Mosgoll and repair shop Auto Weber GmbH & Co. KG, the advert shows a murdered-out S8 with the optional 21-inch wheels. The Four Rings dipped in black contrasted by the S8 logo lend the car a special look.
The dark apparel suits the car quite nicely and it’s a look that continues on the inside where the glossy surfaces complement the black leather surfaces. This particular 2020 Audi S8 Sedan had the optional rear-seat entertainment system and other extra goodies pushing the price tag well into the six-figure territory.
Its twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine is not exclusive to the S8 as you can have it on the armored A8 as well with the exact same technical specifications. The model in question is called A8 L Security and was launched last month in Russia with the same 563 horsepower and 800 Newton-meters (590 pound-feet) of torque.
Don’t get your hopes up too high in regards to a full-fat RS8 since Audi is unlikely to go down that road. Perhaps there will be another S8 Plus further down the line, but the chances of seeing an RS version are slim. It’s a strategy that BMW has also followed with the 7 Series by not offering an M7, although the Alpina B7 is a perfect substitute. Mercedes-AMG does things differently by offering an S63 not only as a sedan, but also in coupe and convertible flavors.
