Beating an electric car is the kind of performance you can brag with. Not all electric cars are blazing fast, that’s for sure, but when it comes to Tesla and the Performance models, beating one of these in a straight line is quite something. That’s exactly what happened in the video published below.
The guys from LoveCars set up a drag race featuring the Tesla Model 3 Performance, which is the most powerful and fastest Model 3 you can get today, and a 2020 Audi RS6 Avant. The Audi was just released late last year and it is already proving to be a true RS6, worthy of the badge on its boot. It looks amazing both inside and out and comes with enough power under the hood to shake things up in the segment it is operating in.
To be more precise, the Audi RS6 Avant comes with a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 delivering 600 HP and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque to the four corners of the car via the 8-speed automatic gearbox it has as standard and the quattro all-wheel drive system. It is supposed to do the 0-62 mph sprint in just 3.6 seconds. That’s blazing fast and on par with its rivals in this uber-sedan niche, the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-AMG E63.
On the other side of this drag strip we have the Tesla Model 3 Performance. Using electrons alone, the Model 3 Performance should do 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds. That’s thanks to its all-wheel drive setup and the instant torque figure of 639 Nm (471 lb-ft). It also comes with 450 HP, a bit down compared to the RS6 but it is lighter though. Furthermore, testers have clocked the Model 3 Performance in real life scenarios doing 0-60 mph in 3 seconds flat.
These are the perfect premises for quite an enticing drag race. The Tesla is known for beating some seriously fast cars but the main disadvantage it has here is the weather. As you’re about to see, it was borderline snowing in the video below and the RS6’s quattro system definitely helped out given the conditions.
