2020 Audi A8 vs 2020 Genesis G90 — KBB Luxuy Test

Audi A8

Hyundai’s premium arm Genesis has been slowing rolling out a new line of luxury and performance cars that can not only challenge the Germans but even one up them in some segments. That’s especially true when you factor in cost, as most Genesis models come at substantial discounts, compared to their German rivals. In this new Kelley Blue Book test, we get to see the new Genesis G90 take on a luxury German stalwart — the Audi A8.

The new A8 is among the best luxury cars on sale at the moment. It looks great, its cabin is incredible and its tech is at the top of the industry. It’s a superb luxury car and one that we really enjoyed our time with. However, the new Genesis G90 is no slouch and is a genuinely luxurious machine that just so happens to ring in at a lower price point.

While this comparison test isn’t very comprehensive, it’s most definitely interesting, as it pairs two unlikely rivals together. In the test, both cars were equipped with their V6 engine options; a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 with 335 hp and 369 lb-ft for the Audi A8 and a 3.3 liter turbocharged V6 with 365 hp and 276 lb-ft for the Genesis G90. The Genesis offers a 5.0 liter naturally-aspirated V8 while the A8 offers a hybrid powertrain and a V8.

Unfortunately, KBB doesn’t really get into which car is better to drive but does say that the Genesis is a great luxury car for the money.¬†However, he Audi A8 is the more premium, more luxurious, more high-tech car when it comes down to it. It might not be so much more that it’s worth its substantial price increase.

So, in the end, if you want the best tech and best luxury available with money being no option, the Audi A8 is your better buy. But if you’re just looking for a really nice luxury car and don’t mind a bit of brand anonymity, the Genesis G90 will save you thousands.
