The new A6 is already starting to gather valuable awards for its mantelpiece. The most recent award came from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The nonprofit organization just announced that, following serious testing, the 2020 Audi A6 qualified for the Top Safety Pick+ rating, the highest in the business and a feat not easily achieved.
According to the IIHS, the 2020 Audi A6 was impressive during all tests, scoring good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. Not only that, but active safety systems performed better than average as well, the Audi being available with a host of new features, some standard while others requiring a bit of extra cash.
Overall though, the advanced safety systems on the Audi were rated ‘Superior’ by the testing organization. For example, in the front crash prevention test, the car’s Audi pre sense front technology reduced the speed of the car by 90 percent, or even up to 100 percent in some testing scenarios, avoiding doing serious damage to the crash test dummies that were ‘walking’ in front of the car. The same results were achieved for both children and adult crash test scenarios.
As a matter of fact, the only area where the 2020 Audi A6 only got an ‘Average’ rating instead of ‘Good’ was in the headlight department and, even then, only for the cheapest option. That said, the A6 wasn’t the only four-ringed car praised in the latest IIHS tests. The 2020 Audi A7 and Audi Q8 were also rated as ‘Top Safety Picks’ but only when equipped with the LED Matrix-design headlights with high-beam assist. Even though that’s an optional feature, it may well be worth the extra money for your safety, especially if you’re traveling for long hours at night.
So it seems that all of Audi’s new luxury cars have passed the IIHS’ safety tests quite handily. Though, it’s the Audi A6 that received the best rating.
