The upcoming, second-generation Audi A7 is one of the cars we’re most excited about here at QuattroDaily. While the first-gen A7 was great looking, this new one is even better looking. It’s a real stunner, this new A7. It will be markedly different from its predecessor, though, being more focused on luxury than sportiness. Audi has moved the A7 more upmarket, closer to the A8 than ever before. The best part about that, though, is it hasn’t moved up in price. This new Audi A7 will start at $68,000 in the U.S., $1,700 less than the current car.
Currently, there are two trim options of the Audi A7, Premium Plus and Prestige. The Premium Plus A7 starts at $69,700. For the new A7, there will be a lower ‘Premium’ trim level that will start at $68,000. Don’t let that trick you into thinking it will be a less car to start, however. The new Premium Audi A7 comes with a ton of great as-standard features, such as full LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, eight-way power/heated leather seats, three-zone climate control and LED taillights with dynamic turn signals. It also gets a new engine, the same 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 as the Audi S5, and a new gearbox, the brand’s seven-speed dual-clutch ‘S-Tronic’ gearbox.
Its new engine makes 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. That’s about the same horsepower as the outgoing car’s 3.0 liter supercharged V6 but about 44 lb-ft more torque. Having driven this new engine in the S5, it has noticeably more low-end shove than the outgoing engine. So despite Audi’s claims of 5.2 seconds to 60 mph for the new A7, which is exactly the same as the old A7, we expect it to be quicker. Especially with the lower gearing and snappier shifts of the dual-clutch ‘box.
This new Audi A7 also gets some snazzy new engine tech that not even its engine-sharing Audi S5 sibling has. It gets a 48-volt electrical system, similar to newer Audis like the A8 and Q8, along with a BAS (Belt Alternator Starter) that can power the crankshaft and let the engine shut down while coasting to save fuel. It also acts as the starter motor on all but cold starts.
We can’t wait to test this new Audi A7 and see how it compares to the old car.
