Audi has apparently decided to produce the next generation Audi A1 due in 2018 or 2019 in Spain. While the current model is assembled in Brussels, Belgium, its successor is expected to be put together at a SEAT factory located in Martorell, near Barcelona. This decision has been taken by Volkswagen as a measure to lower production costs by making more models based on the same architecture and sharing the same assembly line. At the factory in Martorell, SEAT is producing Ibiza, Leon and the Altea models.
Those who are working at Audi’s factory in Brussels shouldn’t be worried about losing a model as a spokesman for the factory says Audi will invest €500 million until 2019. It is believed the Audi A1 will be replaced on the assembly line by an electric vehicle, but it’s not known at this point whether it will be an Audi or another marque part of VAG.
