We recently learned about the most recent and vicious car to come from Sant’Agata, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante. More importantly, said Huracan actually became the all-time fastest production car to ever lap the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife, with a lap time of 6:52:01. That’s almost a full five seconds faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder, which is a million-dollar hybrid hypercar with almost 1,000 hp.
The Huracan Performante also looks great, adding some much needed visual drama to one of Lamborghini’s most calmly-styled cars. The fixed wing, added exposed carbon fiber and Italian flag livery make it very exciting. Then there’s the engine.
Powering the Lamborghini Huracan Performante is the same 5.2 liter naturally-aspirated V10 as in the standard car (and Audi R8), except it’s been bumped up to 640 hp. That engine is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and powers all four wheels, via Lamborghini’s Haldex all-wheel drive system. Using launch control, the Huracan can get from 0-60 mph in a claimed 2.9 seconds, but we suspect it might be a bit faster than that. The Audi R8 V10 Plus can clock 2.9 seconds and the Performante has more power and less weight while still using all-wheel drive. So we think the new Lambo can hit closer to 2.6 or 2.7 seconds.
