Audi still hasn’t showed us the facelifted Q3 but there are already talks about the next generation. The 2017 Audi Q3 will represent the second generation of Ingolstadt’s current smallest crossover and its styling will be influenced by the company’s legendary quattro. This is more than just a rumor as Audi’s new head of design Marc Lichte told a French magazine he still loves the original quattro and some its styling cues will be implemented onto the all-new Q3.
He specified the Q3’s wheel arches and hind quarters will represent a throwback to the quattro which will be interesting to see taking into account the quattro and Q3 are very different cars from separate segments. No further official details are available at the moment of writing but Automobile Magazine is reporting the second generation of the compact crossover is going to be 1cm long as well as considerably lower and wider.
Motivation of the 2017 Audi Q3 is expected to come from a rich variety of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, including a 2.0 TDI with 240 PS sourced from the all-new Volkswagen Passat. It’s unclear at this point whether there will be an RS Q3 with the iconic 5-cylinder 2.5-liter engine but we would be sad to see it go, even though some consider the “RS” moniker is being diluted with these crossovers.
