A new report indicates the forthcoming 2017 Audi A9 will pack as much as 600 bhp (447 kW). Earlier this month we heard Audi will be bringing to the Los Angeles Auto Show in the second half of November a concept which will serve as a preview for a range-topping A9 model set to join the company’s range sometime in 2017. British media is now speculating the concept is currently being built and it will preview Audi’s next design direction.
Expect the concept to be a stylish and sleek four-door coupe equipped with a “newly interpreted” single frame grille and laser headlights. The production model is expected to be largely based on the next generation Audi A8 slated to come out in 2016. Details about the 2017 Audi A9 are scarce at the moment but it will reportedly be offered with a variety of engines including a twin-turbo V6 3.0-liter.
There should also be a beefier twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine to power the rumored Audi S9 where it will develop as much as 600 bhp (447 kW). On the diesel side, potential candidates include V6 3.0-liter and V8 4.0-liter units while gasoline and/or diesel plug-in hybrid derivatives could also be in the works to spice up the 2017 Audi A9 range.
