Independent artist Tobias Büttner has digitally envisaged the upcoming 2017 Audi A5 Sportback. The model was recently spied and based on those images Tobias elaborated these two renders showing what to expect from Audi’s new stylish derivative of the A4 (B9). It has already been green-lighted for a 2016 reveal while the A5 Coupe will also be unveiled next year, with the A5 Cabriolet arriving early 2017.
Taking into account the A4 is now bigger than before, the next A5 will probably have a slightly increased footprint as well, but this won’t make the car heavier as the new platform will command a serious weight loss. Expect to see an evolutionary design with an emphasis on a more angular appearance as implemented in recent Audi models. Although it won’t look that much different than the outgoing version, the more refined body will probably attract more buyers that are willing to sacrifice some of the rear headroom and trunk capacity compared to the more practical and roomier A4.
This will be one of the last models to use the outgoing design language as Audi’s chief designer Marc Lichte has promised a new, more diversified appearance that will premiere with the next generation A8 due early 2017 or so.
An official introduction of the 2017 Audi A5 Sportback is expected to occur in October 2016 at the Paris Motor Show.
