Theophilus Chin is back with another high-quality render, this time depicting the 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet. The all-new B9 generation of the A4 family was inaugurated several months ago when the sedan and Avant came out in Europe and Audi has already announced the new A5 lineup will be inaugurated next year with the arrival of the Coupe and Sportback which means the open-top version will come out sometime in 2017.
It’s really not that hard to imagine how the cabriolet will look like since it will carry over most of the design cues of next year’s coupe, but will eschew the fixed metal roof to make room for an electrically retractable soft top. This means that we should expect to see an evolutionary rather than revolutionary design which will make the 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet look more refined than the outgoing model. It will likely be a tad bigger, but also lighter at the same time thanks to the MLB Evo platform.
A larger footprint will enable a more spacious interior cabin, especially for those sitting on the rear seats which will have more legroom to enjoy and possibly additional headroom as well. We will get an idea of how the cabrio will look likely when the A5 Coupe will come out, possibly as early as March 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show.
