The Audi A5 Sportback is one of the less popular Audi models, though it’s something that us enthusiasts wish was a bit more available. The A5 Sportback is something that isn’t offered in the North American market, which is a bit of a shame because it’s one of Audi’s best looking models. It has a whiff of A7 about it, but with the A5’s more muscular body work so it’s even better looking to these eyes. The current A5 Sportback gets very little attention, but that might change with the next generation.
Auto Express was able to get hold of some spy shots of the upcoming Audi A5 Sportback. Built on the new MLB platform, which also underpins the new B9 Audi A4, the new A5 Sportback will be lighter and more rigid than the outgoing model. It also seems to look a bit more crisp than the previous generation, looking as if it were designed to look like a Sportback from the beginning, where as the current model seems like a bit of an afterthought to the standard A5.
We can tell that it’s going to be a good looking car, even if these pictures aren’t the clearest and the A5 has some camo on it. Being that this model will look better than the previous model, it may become even more popular. We can hope, at least.
Hopefully, Audi will realize that it will work here in the ‘States and bring it across the Atlantic. Im actually not sure why Audi doesn’t believe in the A5 Sportback in North America, as both BMW and Mercedes-Benz sell similar body style cars an Audi’s own A7 sells quite well here. The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe became a big hit here, Mercedes-Benz invented the modern four-door coupe with the CLS Class that sold extremely well here and BMW currently sells the new 4 Series Gran Coupe which is a direct A5 Sportback competitor. The 4 Series Gran Coupe is essentially the same idea as the A5 Sportback and it’s starting to pick up speed here in the ‘States. So it would be same to assume that the A5 Sportback would sell well here as well. Hopefully Audi realizes this and at least tries to sell it here, as this new Audi A5 Sportback looks damn good.[Source: Auto Express]
