A couple of lightly camouflaged prototypes of the 2016 Audi A4 B9 have been spotted in India. The cars were conducting final testing as the new premium compact sedan will be officially introduced before the end of this month and should then head to the Frankfurt Motor Show programmed for mid-September, prior to going on sale late this year.
As you can see from these two prototypes, the new B9 generation will adopt an evolutionary exterior design making the A4 look sharper and sleeker compared to the outgoing model. More importantly, underneath the skin will be a whole new car as the A4 is bound to lose as much as 100 kg as a result of switching to the second-gen MLB platform.
Engine options remain a mystery at this moment, but we do know there’s a new TFSI 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit with 190 PS and 320 Nm that will allow the 2016 Audi A4 B9 consume less than five liters per 100 km.
Audi has reportedly decided to show both the sedan and the more practical Avant while the hotter S versions won’t be out until early next year. As for the RS4, it will be back probably in 2017 but without the V8 naturally aspirated engine as Audi has previously announced to use a smaller turbocharged engine.
