2016 Audi A4 B9 Sedan – In Detail

The 2016 Audi A4 B9 Sedan is finally making its official debut after a painstakingly long road to a full reveal. Unsurprisingly, the styling should be very familiar to fans of the Ingolstadt-based automaker as the design was completed before March Lichte was appointed as Audi’s new design chief. It certainly looks sharper and more upscale than the model it replaces, but many will criticize Audi for not differentiating the two models further.

Don’t let the familiar look trick you into believing this is a mere facelift, because underneath the skin is a brand new car that has lost up to 120 kg. The weight loss is even more impressive when you take into account the new A4 B9 is 25 mm longer and 16 mm wider than the B8 generation while the wheelbase has been extended by 12 mm. Moreover, drag coefficient is down to 0.23 so fuel consumption should be reduced accordingly.

In terms of engines, customers will be able to opt for an entry-level 1.4 TFSI with 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque, but for more muscle there’s a 2.0 TFSI developing 190 PS and 320 Nm. Audi is also offering a beefier version of the same engine with 252 PS and 370 Nm. If you are into diesels, there’s a 2.0 TDI rated at 150 PS and 320 Nm and you can have it in a 190 PS & 400 Nm configuration. A larger 3.0 TDI is the top-spec diesel with 218 PS & 400 Nm or with 272 PS & 600 Nm. Depending on engine choice, Audi is offering a newly developed six-speed manual, new seven-speed S tronic and an eight-speed tiptronic.

As far as the interior cabin is concerned, the elongated wheelbase has added an extra 23 mm of rear legroom while up front there’s a fully digital and customizable 12.3-inch instrument cluster on the upper-spec versions which also boast an 8.3-inch MMI navigation plus system with support for Android Auto, CarPlay, voice control and Wi-Fi hotspot.

At an additional cost, there’s a rear-seat entertainment system with two 10.1-inch tablets and you can also order the 2016 Audi A4 with a Bang & Olufsen sound system that has 19 loudspeakers, a 16-channel amplifier and a total power of 755 watts. We should also mention the LED ambient lighting available in 30 colors along with 10GB of flash storage for the MMI navigation plus system.

Sales of the 2016 Audi A4 B9 Sedan will kick off this fall, following the model’s debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
