The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given the Top Safety Pick+ award to three Audi models.
The cars in question are the A3 Sedan, A6 Sedan and Q5 crossover all from the 2016 model year. This is the highest possible rating awarded by the IIHS and each earned a “good” rating for all of the crash tests within the Top Safety Pick+ program, including for the Small Overlap Front Crash test. Moreover, both the A3 and Q5 receive an advanced rating for front crash prevention when the cars are equipped with the available Driver Assistance package. It’s the same story with the Audi A6 that’s made after January 2015.
This Driver Assistance package for the three models encompasses Audi Active Lane Assist, adaptive cruise control (with stop & go function) and high beam assistant. Go for the A6 Sedan and you also get a top view camera system, while the Q5 benefits from the Audi parking system plus.
It’s worth mentioning the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an independent organization considered as being one of the most important arbiters when it comes to safety for cars sold in United States. During the highly complex crash tests, the IIHS evaluates two aspects of safety: crashworthiness (how the people inside the vehicle are protected in a crash) and crash avoidance & mitigation (technology that helps prevent a crash or lessen the severity).
