Audi Deutschland’s YouTube account has a new video showcasing the smartphone interface in the recently introduced 2015 Q7. This new video comes approximately one week after we saw the powerful tablet inside the full-size SUV and now Audi is detailing the vehicle’s support for both Google Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay.
It’s actually one of the first cars on the market to provide this feature and comes with the Audi phone box which connects the smartphone to the vehicle. This means the display of the smartphone will be mirrored onto the Q7’s MMI screen and the user will be able to play the music on the smartphone using the vehicle’s sound system. Moreover, messaging and navigation functions will also be available through the MMI system which can either be voice controlled or through the rotary knob mounted on the center console.
Needless to say, the 2015 Audi Q7 equipped with the phone box also connects the smartphone to the car’s cellular phone antenna. Audi says shortly after the model will go on sale the phone box will gain wireless smartphone connection and inductive charging functions which will be followed by other similar features.
As a final note, it should be mentioned Apple Car Play will work only on iPhones running at least iOS 7.1 while Android smartphones must have version 5.0 Lollipop or newer versions. Aside from the proprietary iOS & Android apps, the 2015 Audi Q7 will eventually get third-party apps such as WhatsApp, Spotify and Pandora.
