15 Audi models lose the singleframe grille in digital design exercise

Independent artist Theophilus Chin has decided to render 15 Audi models without their singleframe grille.

All automakers nowadays have a few design cues which are implemented across the range to maintain a cohesive design, so that even though you are not a big car fan you will immediately be able to recognize a car brand by that styling characteristic. For Audi, it’s obviously the singleframe grille which they actually patented a while back and as probably know now it’s getting bigger and bigger with every new model.

We are curious to find out what will happen to the singleframe grille once the new Audis will be out under the design lead of Marc Lichte, the man in charge of the marque’s styling department. We will know that towards the end of next year or early 2017 when the next generation A8 will be out as the full-size executive sedan will be the first Audi to use the new design language that has already been previewed through the prologue concepts.

As for the attached renders, the 15 Audis look kind of awkward without the traditional singleframe grille and this goes to show how important it is to have a design features that ties in all of the models across the range.
