VIDEO: Watch this 1,000 hp Audi R8 hit 305 km/h

Last we drove the Audi R8 V10, it blew us away with its teleportation-like acceleration. With 611 horsepower from its 5.2 liter naturally-aspirated V10, the Audi R8 V10 Performance can hit 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and reach 205 mph flat-out. So what happens when you strap two turbos to the R8 and give it 1,000 horsepower?


In this new video from AutoTopNL, we get to watch a half-mile acceleration run from such a car. This Audi R8 V10 Performance has been bi-turbocharged and makes 1,000 horsepower. From a standstill, the 1,000 horsepower reaches 305 km/h (189 mph) in this video.

That might not seem like a high top speed, when you consider the fact that the bone-stock R8 can reach higher. But it’s not the speed reached that’s impressive, it’s the time it takes to get there.


From 0-305 km/h, the Audi R8 only took 16 seconds. If given the chance, it likely would have hit 200 mph in under 20 seconds, which is remarkable. That’s a Bugatti Chiron-level of acceleration from less power and far less cost. Sure, the R8 is expensive but even after all of that work, it’s not $1.5 million. Just an astonishing achievement. Though, not entirely unsurprising.

The Audi R8 is an incredibly stable car at speed, so it can handle just brutal amounts of power and remain rock solid. Which is a big part of why tuners love to tinker with R8s and make huge amounts of power from them. Also, the V10 engine is a monster and can handle so much more power than the stock car makes, without having to mess with internals.


Still, we’re not so sure anyone really should make more power. The Audi R8 is delicious as it is, and makes the most sensational noise. Sure, slapping turbos to it is great and all but turbochargers sort of ruin the sound of a naturally-aspirated V10, even with an aftermarket exhaust.
