In just a few short days, we’ll see the unveiling of the second SUV to ever come from Lamborghini. The upcoming Lamborghini Urus will be a car of massive importance for the brand, as it will allow the famously exclusive brand to become a bit more accessible and, more importantly, bring in a boatload more money. Just like Porsche did with the Cayenne, the Urus will bring a higher-volume, high-profit car to Lamborghini’s lineup, which will help it create even more insane supercars. Which is why Lamborghini has to give the Urus everything it’s got and make the best SUV it possibly can.
In this video, Lamborghini tries to make some sort of connection between the “Pioneering Perfection” of the LM002, the brand’s first SUV, and the upcoming Urus. Except that there’s really no engineering connection between the two. In fact, the LM002 was a hatchet-job and was basically a disaster. It was awesome because it has a Diablo V12 powering it and was a chunky 4×4 SUV.
The Lamborghini Urus,on the other hand, has been built using Audi’s MLB-Evo II platform, which is lightyears ahead of the LM002, in terms of engineering and technology. It uses a VW Group engine, a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8, borrowed from the Porsche Panamera and Audi A7, and it will have a suite of impressive technology. The Urus will also be genuinely luxurious and sport astonishing performance, from what we’ve heard. The LM002 was a mess and handled like it. In fact, it was uncomfortable, sloppy and downright bad to drive.
In the video, though, we see Lamborghini engineers sculpting and designing the Urus, alongside footage of the LM002 being designed. It’s a cool video, despite the lack of actual connection between the two cars.
That doesn’t diminish the upcoming Urus, though. Lamborghini is giving it everything it has and it shows. From what we’re hearing, the Urus could be the most exciting and fun SUV ever made. We can’t wait.
