VIDEO: Carfection drives the fantastic Audi RS4 Avant

Audi RS 4 Avant

The Audi RS4 Avant is our White Whale, in America. We’ve been chasing it for years, hoping to actually catch it here, ‘Stateside. However, it’s constantly eluding us. The lack of RS4 Avant in North America constantly frustrates car enthusiasts with the means to buy one. In terms of performance, comfort, practicality and dynamics, the Audi RS4 Avant may be the perfect car for many enthusiasts. Sadly it’s out of our reach. Which really is a shame, because it seems to be fantastic.

This new video review from Carfection is actually more of a love-letter to the RS4 Avant. In it, we see exactly why its duality is so appealing.

With its 2.9 liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that develops 450 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque, the RS4 Avant is certainly capable of thrills. According to Audi, 0-60 mph takes just 4.1 seconds, but it’s likely that it can really do it in around 3.8 seconds. So it’s quick. Really quick. It also makes a good noise, even if it isn’t as intoxicating as the old RS4’s free-breathing V8. But the Audi RS4 Avant isn’t just a straight-line bruiser. If you find a bit of twisty road, it can come alive and provide the excitement that enthusiasts crave.

When you’re done with hard driving and just want to relax, it can do that too. I can be quiet, refined and supple, allowing you to comfortably cruise along at around-town speeds with ease. It also has auto start/stop, so it can be quiet in the morning when you’re trying not to wake your neighbors or when you don’t want constant exhaust noise.

If you need to bring the family and their luggage along, it can do that, too. Its large back seat is big enough to accommodate at least two adults, maybe three in a pinch. But it also has a big enough trunk to swallow up luggage with ease. So if you’re taking a long trip with the family, it can haul all of them and their gear, all while also being able to double as either a luxury car or a performance car.

Being a jack-of-all-trades is often not very endearing. Impressive, yes but actually engaging? Not really. That’s not the case with the Audi RS4 Avant. It’s so good at everything it does that it has a real charm to it. It might not be as thrilling as the Mercedes-AMG C63 S or the BMW M3 but it’s so much more capable than those cars. It’s so much more well-rounded and easier to live with everyday.

Carfection likens the Audi RS4 Avant to the third car in your three-car dream garage. In that garage, you’d likely have your exotic supercar, possibly a classic car and then your everyday driver. According to Carfection, the RS4 Avant is that perfect everyday driver and must-have in your dream garage.
