Audi has created what it calls the Design Universe, which is basically a think-tank for what Audi’s might be like in the future. Audi asked young student designers at four universities around the world to come up with their visions for Audis of the future. What they’ve come up with is truly remarkable. Some of the designs are striking and beautiful, while others are just plain strange.
The Audi Quantum is the main design and probably the best. Designed at Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan, the Quantum looks like something genuinely fro the future. It looks like it could feasibly be a car from 30 years from now. It even looks kind of fun to drive. It supposedly would have retina scanners that scan the approaching driver’s retinas so it can configure the interior accordingly before entering. In the words of everyone from the 1990’s, radical.
While all of the designs aren’t as successful as the Quantum, they’re all impressive. It’s incredibly difficult to try and design something for the future while still maintaining design aesthetics that are attractive today. These designs all look great…well, except for the one that’s just a chair. That one’s actually kind of weird. But the rest look fantastically interesting.
