Ever year for as long as any of us can remember, Car and Driver has been doing a 10Best list for different segments of cars. Last year, the Audi Q7 made the “10Best Mid-Size Luxury Truck & SUV” list and it’s done the same this year. That’s actually a huge deal, as C&D’s 10Best list is a highly coveted award.

“The Audi Q7 offers our customers an exceptional driving experience and the latest connected car applications and driver assistance systems – in addition to comfortable seating for seven passengers,” said Scott Keogh, president, Audi of America. “For the Q7 to emerge as Car and Driver’s 10Best Truck & SUV of the Year further demonstrates how Audi is setting a new benchmark for the luxury SUV segment.”

C&D felt that the Audi Q7 was a great overall package, one that combined luxury, dynamics, technology and practicality in a way that was better than most other SUVs. According to C&D, its was one of the best to “combine an ability to tackle practical jobs with innovative technologies and luxury trimmings.”

The base Audi Q7 comes with a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque and is paired with an eight-speed automatic. While we love that powertrain in the Audi A4, it’s a bit under-powered for such a big, heavy car. We even felt it to be a bit overwhelmed by the heft of the smaller Audi Q5. However, it is available with a 3.0 liter supercharged V6, which makes 333 hp and is worth the upgrade, as it packs far more punch.

Key features of the Q7 that wins it top marks with critics and customers alike are things like Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, new MMI system and three-row seating. So the Q7 is not only a powerful and luxurious SUV but it also packs state-of-the-art technology and enough space for the whole family. No wonder it made C&D’s 10Best list.
