Audi’s latest generation of A4, the B9-gen, is probably the best iteration of the famous model, yet. It’s lighter, leaner, faster and dynamically superior to the B8 that it replaces. It’s also the most powerful standard Audi A4 in the model’s history.
With a 252 hp 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, mated to a dual-clutch S-Tronic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive, the B9 Audi A4 is capable of 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. However, if that’s not fast enough for you, APR now offers an ECU engine tune for you B9 Audi A4 and it’s the best value/performance upgrade we’ve seen for the new A4.
The APR Stage I ECU tune for the EA888 Gen 3 engine bumps the Audi A4’s power up to anywhere between 306-314 hp and 367-388 lb-ft of torque, depending on fuel grade. That’s a massive power bump, almost last-gem Audi S4 power, with minimum gains of 54 hp and 94 lb-ft of torque. Even more with higher-spec fuel. All of that and this upgrade requires absolutely no hardware changes and is just a software tune.
But it isn’t just a simple power upgrade. The APR Stage I ECU tune also changes some software settings that helps improve drivability. For instance, the APR tune increases the top speed limiter that comes stock at 155 mph. It also allows for left-foot braking, which is disabled in the stock car. The stock A4 won’t allow for throttle applications of the brake pedal is engaged, despite left-foot braking being a common technique used at the track. While your average A4 owner would never think to do such a thing, the enthusiast might want to do so, so APR allows it.
The APR tune also increases fuel economy, so there’s no efficiency penalty whatsoever. In fact, it’s a win/win for owners, as it makes your Audi faster while also saving you money at the pump.
If you’re like me and like tuned cars, but not too heavily tuned, APR tunes are for you. This Stage I tune is just modest bump in power, but a healthy enough boost that it will seriously increase performance. But it in no way would make the A4 seem any more uncivilized or less luxurious, simply faster.
The best part about APR tunes like this is that they’re cheap and come with a full warranty. At only $699, you can add all of that performance and efficiency and have the reassurance that if anything on your engine were to break due to the tune, APR will have you covered.
