Starting December 1, the LA Auto Show will be underway, showing off the latest and greatest the industry has to offer. There will be many big North American debuts from several different automakers. However, one of the biggest, and one that we’re very excited about, is the brand-new 2018 Audi A8.

The new Audi A8 is a huge step for the brand, as it replaces the aging current-generation A8. While still handsome, the current A8 is just not competitive with the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series. Those cars simply crush the current A8, in terms of luxury and technology, the two most important factors in the segment.

So this new A8 will be a massive leap forward, launching it ahead of its competitors. Its design is all new, featuring Marc Lichte’s new design language. That means it gets Audi’s now-famous Singleframe grille, crisp lines, OLED taillights and angry headlights.

Inside, it features an all-new interior that’s the most luxurious and high-tech ever fitted to a four-ringed product. While it’s a bit reserved, especially compared to the downright flashy S-Class, it’s very handsome and the materials are superb. There’s also an almost absurd level of tech inside the new A8, including multiple touchscreens, Audi’s latest MMI infotainment system and the newest version of the Virtual Cockpit, which looks brilliant.

But by far and away, the biggest news is the Audi A8’s autonomous driving capabilities. The new A8 is the first production car to debut with true Level 3 autonomy. That means that, while under very specific circumstances, it can drive completely on its own. So on a highway with two lanes of traffic, clearly marked lines and up to speeds of 37 mph, the Audi A8 can completely drive itself. So accelerating, braking, steering, everything.

If you’re in the LA area, it’s worth checking the new Audi A8 out at this year’s LA Auto Show.
